Everyone told him not to start a church in an impoverished area, and everyone of Pastor Smedley’s mentors said that the church would not be able to financial sustain itself. The church had a vision to reach the lost in a non-traditional way and in a non-traditional environment, a school. Suddenly word gets out that there is a church meeting in a school in the community. People began to recognize that this church is different. People began to see that this church loves people, has a family environment, and serves the community. Now just a few years later, The Promise church has baptized many people and has seen many give their lives to Jesus Christ.
